Bugging in: Situation Report : Midwest Ice Storm

    Springfield, Missouri: Day 5

Really learning a lot about what we are missing or possibly missing for future emergencies.
11 people in my house at this time. Deliveries from "defunct" homes' food storage coming in daily as people head out to check on their pets and bring in food that was at risk of going bad.

Had someone we didn't know knock on our door today and ask for entry. So it begins. We will be "out" after dark from here on in. Blanketing or foiling the windows. Going to head out to the store tomorrow to buy more protection supplies (Just in case we get more "visitors"). This one offered us drugs, and tried to feed us a story about how "his family" was stuck in a warming shelter.

The news says that it is possible that some areas of town may not have power until as much as three weeks from now. FEMA is coming in to give aide to governments, but not individuals. The food banks are delivering food and supplies to shelters, but not houses. The government is doing nothing but clearing trees. Shelters are being run by churches, hospitals, and individuals only. The government doesn't care about anyone, but that was to be expected.

Our pantry is close to an uncomfortable stage of bare for me. We have a guaranteed 3 days worth of tasty frugal meals left before we may have to resort to. There are 4 rolls of toilet paper. If we had lost power in these conditions, we would be in about the same shape as we are now, but with more toilet paper. *wink*

Learned what we are doing right as well. This has been a real learning experience.

Uncomfortable, cramped and crabby, but alive, warm, and well fed.

If there's anything we can do to help y'all, come by. We have extra toilet paper and paper towels, if nothing else!

Oh Hun! I am so sorry it's so crazy there right now, and the gov't isn't helping much. PLEASE be safe and watch who you let in. You have a good heart and are a very intelligent woman, just be cautious!
