    The Yuck

I am a human barometer. I should have guessed it was only a matter of time before the family's propensity for being physically effected by the weather came to visit me as well, but about three years ago, I realized that when I got a migraine for no reason whatsoever, it was likely that there was a storm front moving in, or the temperature was dropping quickly. Since then, I've successfully combated this little quirk with a combination of acupressure, Excedrin, and in extreme cases, Sudafed.

Then this last weather change happened. Usually, it's not a problem. Weather in the Ozarks changes, and moves on, leaving a relatively pleasant and even barometric pressure, which eases my discomfort greatly. Most times, the effects last about 4 hours, and are somewhat mild.

The sinus pressure caused by the dropping barometric pressure cause the migraine I have come to expect when bad weather is on it's way, but I wasn't prepared for the pressure to continue to drop over a period of several days.

At first, I thought it was allergies that run in the family, that I have luckily avoided thus far, with all the wind blowing pollen everywhere, then the constant sneezing, but it seems to be something more. The allergy medicine didn't do me any good except to stop the sneezing, but the sinus pressure increased until it couldn't build up any more, and finally turned into a near-constant runny nose and post-nasal drip, which, of course, made it's way down to my lungs, and took up residence. The irritation to my lungs caused by the excess mucus has let to a lovely little case of bronchitis which I hope subsides quickly. It is hard to get enough rest when one is waking up every hour or so to cough up a lung, despite a hearty dose of herbal treatments combined with lots of fresh juices, immune boosters, extra vitamins, and three over-the-counter drugs.

There's only two illnesses I combat immediately with pharmaceuticals; bronchitis, and strep throat. In my eyes, neither of them are to be trifled with. Colds and other mild discomforts are best prevented or dealt with through rest, liquids, a healthy lifestyle, and sometimes a trip to the health food store for a bottle of some encapsulated herb or another.

So yeah, I don't have the beat, I have the yuck.
