    Playing With Fire

Ladybug and her new friend Bananas. He's 5 years old, and very friendly.

Ladybug has been poi dancing for over a year now, and we just recently made myself and Littlebit our own practice poi, so when we heard about a troupe of fire dancers preforming on the square in Springfield during the First Friday Art Walk on September 7th, (last Friday), we simply had to go. Below is Littlebit and her 2 year old friend. Their parents brought them to the poi practice, and while they were spinning, they let folks play serpent sitter.

I figured we would find some neat folks to chat with and Ladybug could maybe learn a few new techniques to practice. We ended up reconnecting with some folks we hadn't seen in a year, reconnecting with some recently acquired friends, and meeting several new friendly faces.

I finally gave Ladybug permission to light up for the first time and perform some of her perfected basic moves with live flame. She and I both got to learn how to be a spotter (The flame douser), one of the most important jobs in a fire dancing troupe. Safety is all-important.

It was a really fun day, even in the rain. *smile*
