    And Then There Was One

Seven little baby bunnies were born this Saturday around 11pm to a first-time mommy. She did a great job, but the heat, her inexperience and her sharp claws were too much for them. There is one left and we have removed the nesting box from the cage because she won't let him stay in there. We've trimmed her nails to soft nubs. Maybe she knows best about the nest box, because he is doing just fine. Here's hoping that he's a little survivor! *crosses fingers*

Until we get the air conditioner installed in the bunny barn, there will be no breeding from May to August ever again. It was a hard lesson to learn, and I'm not sure why we thought that the fans and the ice bottles would be enough cooling for delicate newborns.

This is the way of living on a farm. *sigh*
