My Take on Network Neutrality

If you haven't yet signed the petition, please do so. *smile*

It wouldn't be so important to me if it weren't for the fact that, with the internet, I can be a near instant expert on anything given about 5 minutes. If everything slows down, that'll be a HUGE drag.

Then you have the added problem of economic unfeasiblity. All business owners will have to pay big money to the telcom companies to get their websites to work fast, and with trickle-down economics, the customer will have to pay more for the products because corps don't absorb costs, which will make it harder on everyone else.

Small business owners will have to raise prices to make up for the loss of sales because their sites run slower, localized spending in communities will decrease because al of the cash is going to the telcomms (less charity donations and such from companies due to added bills to the telcomms)

If this passes, I truly believe that there will very shortly be an extreme downturn in our economy. It might well cause the next depression. *sigh*

The reason it's so important to me has nothing to do with ease of access or speed of connection really (I can research at dial-up speeds, just as easily as I can at broadband), but it is the very real financial impact it will have on this country that worries me most.
