Chorizo & Egg Burritoes, Kids, Bunny News

We started our if-the-freezer-is-empty-enough monthly premaking binge again today.
in two hours, we made 42 chorizo, egg, & cheese burritoes, and two quiches. (we also baked pizza for dinner). Total cost for 42 premade, ready to heat & eat burritoes (including buying the tortillas): $15. That's less than 36 cents a burrito! Can't beat that at any store! (and no store carries this type anyway) Total cost for quiches: $3.00. That still is an amazing price, and we're going to freeze them for use later. *grin* See, there was this sale on eggs, and we bought 10 dozen... *laugh* It's a darned good thing I bought freezer bags last time we were at the store!

I still swear that one can make enough premade goodies to feed a family of four for 3 months in just a few hours a week, but nobody seems to want to listen. Until inflation eats everyone's pocket money, they will continue to buy premade goodies at expensive prices instead of spending a tiny bit of time at home once a week. It doesn't require a lot of effort. Maybe I should start selling my premade dinners I make for my family too? *laugh* Nah, I have enough on my plate at the moment. :P

Tomorrow I get to pick up some heirloom seedlings grown by a local homeschooling family. I am so excited! I'm also going to see if I can successfully make homemade tortillas and save us even more money. *grin* Ah, if only I could keep a goat in my tiny yard here in town, we'd never buy milk again, and we'd have free cheese & butter too! *chuckle* Someday...

The kids are being amazingly good and helpful lately. Helping with the premades, doing their chores, helping with the adult chores and the plants, occupying themselves in their spare time without an adult having to intervene due to screaming or crying... Things are looking very good on the home front. *smile*

Our bunny still has not popped out any babies, but we're still hoping. She was "due" on or around the 9th, so we have no clue what is going on. Her vulva is swollen, so maybe soon? She still hasn't been pulling hair with anything like the serious vigor like I was told she would be, but she's shedding copiously. Today we set up her little run outside of her cage again and she came out of her cage to play!!! This is pretty amazing since she is a breeder rabbit, and I don't think she ever got out of a cage her entire life before she came to us. I thought she would never come out of her cage on her own, but it seems she now feels safe enough to do so. *smile* I see it as a good thing (even if she is over a foot tall when she stands on her hind legs, and can easily jump the mini-fence) *beam* I'm just happy that she likes it here. Now if we can just get some babies out of her. *chuckle* We were told she is a very good bunny mommy.

That's really good that you're able to make pre-made burritos so inexpensively - good job! :-)

I don't know what's up with that bunny of yours. Perhaps she's all "babied" out? Probably not. Maybe she's just late because of residual stress from moving? I don't know, I hope she has them soon :-)

Thank you for the fry bread! It was delicious! ("Was" being the opperative word, here. We inhaled them and licked the plate!)

Allen and I totally agree with you on cooking meals ahead. We're looking forward to having a freezer big enough. I'm also in love with the pre-packaged crockpot dinners. They save so much effort, and it's great to have a "cauldron" of hot food ready whenever we get hungry. But I'm sure that we could do that more cheaply ourselves, and without preservatives and unwanted ingredients. (I'm visciously allergic to peppers of any kind.)

I thought of you when I was browsing here. http://www.snoods.com/
